Movies of 2013

I watched quite a few movies this year and many of them were good. I thought I will list and briefly review the movies that I watched this year.

      1. Oblivion

        We went to this movie without any expectations on the day it got released. It was an impulsive decision that we made just by looking at the trailer. The movie had so many twists and turns that I stopped guessing what would happen after a while, since nothing that I predicted happened. After a long time, I liked a sci-fi movie. And it has Tom Cruise in it. What more reasons do you need to watch it? 🙂

      2. The Hangover Part III

        The gang is again in trouble and Mr. Chow is back in this movie. There was no hangover in this movie. It was very funny as usual but I am sad that the series ended. 😦

      3. The Great Gatsby

        I read the novel before watching the movie and simply loved it. Leonardo is one of my favourite actors and that made me watch the movie as soon as it was released. Movie was good with extravagant settings, stuck to the book mostly and acting was brilliant. I hope Leonardo gets Oscar at least this time.

      4. Star Trek Into Darkness

        I loved the first part and that was the reason why I wanted to watch this movie. If you have seen the original Star Trek series, you can think of this movie as a prequel to one of the movies from the original series (Wrath of Khan). I did not like this movie that much but since it is Star Trek, I can watch it again and again.

      5. Iron Man 3

        Some reviews said that this Iron Man was not that good, so I did not watch it in theatre. Recently when I got the DVD, I was surprised since this movie was better than the last Iron Man. It was probably the best Iron Man movie released so far. I simply loved the movie. It has lot of action and even the story line is good. The ending was surprising and open ended.

      6. Man of Steel

        I love Superman and Nolan produced this movie. Enough reasons to watch it on the day it got released right? This new superman looks good and I liked the new look that they gave to him. I am eagerly waiting for the next year’s movie with Superman and Batman together.

      7. Monsters University

        I loved Monsters Inc and this was a prequel to that movie. This movie was funny and brilliant, but I would say Monsters Inc was better than this movie. In this movie, they show how Sullivan and Mike end up becoming friends and scarers. Story was really good and interesting (It is Pixar’s, so this was obvious). If you liked Monsters Inc, you should definitely not miss this movie.

      8. Despicable Me 2

        This movie was so funny! Probably the best movie I saw in 2013. The purple minions were so cute and funny. I even got myself a purple minion toy. It was better than the first part and it has more minions. Don’t miss this movie, if you like to watch cartoons.

      9. Gravity

        I went to this movie with lot of expectations. It was good and visually stunning, but I would not say it was great. George Clooney was hardly there in the movie and that really disappointed me, since I went to the movie mainly because of him. His role was more like a guest appearance. And lot of things don’t really make sense in the movie.

      10. Ender’s Game

        I read the book and just loved it. The movie was good and I liked it mainly because of Harrison Ford. But it does not follow the book closely and the ending was rushed I felt. The ending was what blew my mind in the book, but it was portrayed very poorly in the movie. They could have extended the movie for another 15 mins and given us a proper memorable ending. Thankfully, they cut the part about Valentine and Peter in the movie. I felt their story was really boring and useless in the book.

      11. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

        This movie was great and I loved it. What I really loved about the movie was her makeup, her eye shadows, her clothes. 😛 I was drooling over all the gorgeous dresses she wore in the movie. I know it sounds stupid, but that is what I loved the most in the movie. 😀

      12. The Hobbit : The desolation of Smaug

        It was good but did not meet my expectations somehow. I liked the first movie a lot. Everyone who has not read the book liked the movie. I kept comparing it with the book and felt cheated. There were so many unnecessary scenes added as fillers to extend the length of the movie. Why did he have to make 3 movies out of a small book?! Why couldn’t they make one movie which stuck to the book and was interesting?! They added a love story, gave many scenes to Legolas, return of the necromancer and so many other stuff which were not in the book. I don’t know what will be shown in the next book, some major cooked up story. There is hardly any story left from the book. Peter Jackson, I am disappointed.

      13. Frozen

        Frozen-movie-poster
        This movie was so cute! It is a sweet tale about two sisters, two princesses. After a long time, I liked a Disney movie. I guess the last ones I liked were”Tangled” and “The Princess and the frog”. I loved the iceman, the reindeer and all the other characters in the movie. Definitely one of the best movies of this year. It is a musical with lot of songs. If you are not the kind who likes musicals (like my husband), you will not like the movie.

      14. The Wolverine – (I love X-men series and Wolverine especially. I can’t believe that I did not watch this movie. ) Watched it on DVD. It is okay, not as good as the first movie was. In fact, I got bored in the middle since the story was not making sense but all the loose ends were tied at the end.

I am yet to watch these on the DVD:

      1. Safe Haven – I want to read the book before watching it.
      2. Jobs – Reviews are not that good, but I loved the book. I guess that is a good enough reason to watch it.  {done}
      3. Kick-Ass 2 – I loved the first part a lot and I want to see what they have in store in the second part.  {done}
      4. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 – First part was funny and the trailer looked promising, so I want to watch it soon.  {done}
      5. Captain Phillips – Tom Hanks is there and my dad said that the movie is great. I am desperately waiting for the DVD to get released.  {done}
      6. The book thief – I did not like the book but I still want to watch the movie. I did not want to watch it in the theater, since I have a feeling that it might be boring.
      7. Thor: The dark world – Even though I like superhero movies, I somehow did not like the first Thor movie that much. I will watch this movie on DVD probably.
      8. The Host – I have not read the book, but want to watch the movie sometime.
      9. The Wolf of Wall street – heard very good reviews about the movie.  {done}
