Supermoon

Today saw the supermoon for the second time in my life. We even went for a drive just to catch a better glimpse of the moon. How could I not capture it on camera?

On Sunday (June 23), the moon will be at its closest point to Earth — called perigee. This relatively close brush will happen as the moon enters its fullest phase, creating the cosmic coincidence known as the supermoon. At its fullest and closest, the moon will appear about 12 percent larger in the sky.  (Taken from link)

  1. When I tried to take a picture of the moon with my cell-phone camera, it appeared like a start (dot)! I don’t know how you ppl take such closeup shots of the moon! Nice pic 🙂

    1. I took this with a DSLR + telephoto lens. It is easier to take with an SLR.
      Actually supermoon is at 5 AM or something on 23rd June. I was sure I wont wake up at that time, so took it the previous night itself 😀 😀

    1. Thanks for the link Aravindh. Interesting, no wonder I did not find the moon all that big but the brightness was more. Nice to read about the illusion. Many times I have felt that the moon was bigger when it was at the horizon. Now I know why.

  3. Today it was all raining, and low clouds…I waited till 12.00 am to get a glance, but till now it’s never appeared anywhere near. I kept my gear and everything was ready..But glad that I am finishing my day by seeing your supermoon. Very well taken.
