Most of the time when we come across a fantasy novel, it will be part of some series. There are hardly any standalone fantasy novels written. I sometimes prefer standalone novels as these days I don’t have enough time to sit and finish 8-10 books of 1200 pages each. Life has gotten so busy that it is difficult for me to focus on any book which is longer than 500 pages these days.
Here are some standalone fantasy novels that I have read or would like to read in the near future.
I am a fan of the thriller genre in general, but being a nerd, I prefer sci-fi thrillers. I get the best of both genres – Science Fiction genre and Thriller genre. Sci-fi thrillers usually have some suspense element and are centered around either a creature wreaking havoc to some scientific research or some aliens who decide to destroy Earth or something else which keeps us at the edge of our seat until we are done with the book. These books hook you and are fast paced while also having some hard science elements in them.

I have been suffering from reading slump this month for some reason. In general, the political climate in the country is bad and I am stressed out because of various things in personal life too. I haven’t been able to finish a single novel this month as I am not able to concentrate much on anything. In situations like this, dystopian novels come handy. When you think your life is horrible and you read a dystopian novel, you feel your world is much better than the one in the book. At least we don’t have people burning books or killing each other on streets right? 🙂
Here are some dystopian books that I have enjoyed in the past. I love this genre a lot and keep reading books from this genre often.
I don’t usually read horror books as I get scared easily. I stay away from ghost stories and haunted house stories but I do love reading gothic fiction. Especially when it comes to reading classics, I love gothic literature more than anything else. I love how these stories also have a science fiction element in them.
These are my favorite gothic books which are perfect for Halloween – as they are creepy but not as creepy as some of the other horror novels out there.
