April wasn’t such a good reading month for me. I went on vacation, work got really busy to the point of giving me headaches (literally) and I spent a lot of time outside basking in the spring sun. After the terrible winter, I was happy to be able to go to parks and do some outdoor activities. I enrolled my kid in a soccer class and evenings are spent either there or in the park. Because of this, my reading time got cut short. I am also trying to sleep early these days so that I can wake up early in the morning.
I went on a trip to Portland and got to visit Powell’s Bookstore, which is considered world’s biggest bookstore. I will have a detailed post up on that bookstore along with some pics. I bought three books there. See how good I am getting these days at resisting myself? Few years back, I would have bought 13 books from a bookstore that huge and amazing. Now I have developed a lot of self control. I read two out of these three books in April.
2019 has been a hectic year and I have not been able to read the books that I had planned to read. Instead, I am reading books that were not even part of my TBR. I saw the Marie Kondo show and Salt Fat Acid Heat show and suddenly got inspired to do some organization of home and kitchen. I read a total of 9 books in Jan, but most of them were non-fiction and small sized books.
Happy New Year guys! 2018 is finally over and 2019 is here. 2018 has been a great year for me personally as things improved on the career front and I got to make some international trips – UK and Mexico. Life was hectic but eventful. I even got to attend Worldcon this year. Here’s hoping that 2019 will be equally good.
December was a pretty busy month for me as I took a cruise to Mexico. More details will be coming soon in a separate post. I read 6 books in total in December.
Here are the books that I finished in December –
This month I read 4 books from the library which is huge since I normally don’t borrow books from the library. One was an audiobook (The immortal life of Henrietta Lacks) and the rest were graphic novels.
Graphic Novels from Library:
November was not such a great reading month for me as I hit the reading slump. Nothing I picked held my attention and I ended up starting and not finishing a lot of books. November was also the month for reading nonfiction so I attempted to read some nonfiction this month. I also picked some books from library after a long time and finished them in November. I also have some library books to read in December.
I read 3 nonfiction books – out of which one was a proper book and rest 2 were graphic novels. I read just one fiction novel this month belonging to fantasy genre. Apart from these, I read four more graphic novels/comics – bringing my total graphic novel/comic count to 6 and only 2 novels. When I am in a reading slump, I gravitate towards comics/graphic novels as they can be read in less time and with less mental effort.
So these are the books I read in November –
Usually, we end up buying books that others recommend to us. Rarely do we browse through synopsis of books and pick books that interest us. I recently shopped for books by just choosing ones that interested me, without checking the reviews online. None of these books were recommended by any of the book reviewers out there. So these are some books I chose myself and I have a feeling I will love all these. I did a similar haul back in Jan which you can find here – Nonfiction book haul.
This time I ended up buying these books – Continue reading
