Top Ten Fantasy Books on my TBR

While writing this post about top ten SF books on my tbr, I realized I had quite a few fantasy books that I was eager to get to. So I made a separate post about the top ten fantasy books on my TBR for 2019.

Here are the ten fantasy books on my immediate tbr –

1. A Stranger in Olondria by Sofia Samatar – I am trying to read more female SFF authors and Sofia Samatar is quite famous for her fiction. I did read couple of chapters from this book and I liked the part that I read. Would love to finish this book in 2019.

2. The Forgotten Beasts of Eld by Patricia A. McKillip – Patricia has won multiple World Fantasy awards and is quite famous for her fantasy. I saw this copy at Worldcon and got it because of the stunning cover by Tachyon Publications.

3. Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier – I have only heard good things about this author by everyone who has read her books. I also love fairy tales and this is a retelling of a fairy tale which makes me even more eager to read it.

4. Dragons of Autumn Twilight by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman – I love Dragons and have been trying to read every series which focuses on Dragons. This is one such classic fantasy series and I can’t wait to read it.

5. The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge – This was on my TBR for 2018 but could not read it. I hope to read it in 2019. This is by an author who is well known for her middle grade fantasy.

6. The Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson – This is probably the most hyped series next to ASOIAF. Everyone says this series is the most complex series they have read with way too many characters and subplots. I am very eager to start this series.

7. Malice by John Gwynne – I own a box set of this series and it is a series that I am sure I will love. I heard it is very much like ASOIAF series and that those who like one will like the other. I will binge read this series next year.

8. Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay – Another famous author I have not yet read. Even some authors I met in Worldcon recounted Guy as being their favorite. I need to read something by him soon. I even have the audiobook version narrated by my favorite narrator.

9. The Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey – I came across this author when I read Eragon and many reviews said Eragon was inspired from this book. I also saw Patrick Rothfuss dedicate his book to Dragonriders of Pern. I knew I had to read this book but it has been sitting on my shelf from last few years. Time to read it soon.

10. The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson – Anyone who has read the Stormlight Archive series says it is the best series they have ever read. I want to get on the hype train and see if the series is worth the hype it is getting. This is yet another book sitting on my shelf from 2-3 years waiting to be read. Also after meeting Sanderson in Worldcon and seeing nice he is in real life, I want to read more of his fiction.

So what do you have on your TBR?

  1. I’ve only read the first Pern book.and it was ages ago- not sure why I never continued on, but I’ve thought of revisiting it numerous times. I did read the Dragonlance series- hope you enjoy!

  2. Fantasy books are not my favourite. I like mostly travelogues, biographies, and select fiction. Among my TBR are “Forward: My Life With and Without Boney M.”, by Marcia Barrett; and The Summons by John Grisham.
