#RRSciFiMonth November Wrapup

I participated in Sci-fi november event this month as mentioned in my introduction post. This was the first time that I participated in this event or any event for that matter. I have never participated in readalongs and blogging events so it was a lot of fun.

The best part about participating in this event was getting an opportunity to meet other bloggers who love science fiction, as much as I do. I discovered and subscribed to many new bloggers thanks to this event. I also discovered some amazing sci-fi books and movies that I had not managed to read/watch. I also got to read some interesting posts by fellow bloggers this month -lists, discussions and reviews.

I am definitely going to participate in this event next year and next time, I will be more prepared well in advance with a list of books and movies that I want to read/watch in november.

I had planned to read 3 books this month. I managed to finish and review The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells. I did not however find time to read The Forever War by Joe Haldeman. So that book is still on my tbr. I read Dark Matter by Blake Crouch and reviewed it, even though I had not planned on reading it this month. I also added a post about some short stories and novellas that I read in 2016. I also managed to finish my Halloween read this month – The Fevre Dream by George R. R. Martin (fantasy novel) which I absolutely loved.

I made a post about my favorite science fiction movies. This is just part 1. I have many more movies about which I want to talk for which I will make another post in future. I also watched The Butterfly Effect movie which was on my wishlist for a long time. I did a review of that movie too.

Other than these, I also attempted to read “The left hand of darkness by Ursula K. LeGuin” but I did not like the book. I ended up not finishing it and then marking it as DNF.  This is what I felt about that book –

I somehow pushed myself to finish reading 20% of the book with the hope that something interesting will happen and suck me into the book. Nope. This might be the first science fiction book that I found boring. The author throws so many weird names and places at you, without even doing any kind of world building. How the hell am I supposed to remember who this name belongs to – “Therem Harth rem ir Estraven”? There is no flow in the story. Scenes just abruptly start and end. Writing was seriously bad. Overhyped. Also I did not see anything related to gender either in the first 20% of the book, nor was there any science in the so-called science fiction.

Imyril from onemore.org hosted a giveaway which I won! This was the first giveaway that I ever won. She sent me a copy of “Ninefox Gambit” by Yoon Ha Lee which got released in 2016 and has been getting plenty of good reviews. Also I have not read many space opera books so I am very excited to read this book. And just look how stunning the cover is –

I am planning to participate in “HarryChristmastoYou” event in December. I will probably read the first book in december and then read the other Harry Potter books in 2017 – one or two books every month. It has been few years since I last read Harry Potter books. I also heard about Vintage Sci-Fi event in January which I am hoping to participate in.
