Sci-Fi Month: November 2016 #RRSciFiMonth

Announcement post on Rinn’s reads blog.

I came across this and decided to jump in. This is like a month long event hosted by RINN READS and OVER THE EFFING RAINBOW where bloggers post anything and everything about science fiction. I am probably one of the most irregular bloggers but I am trying to see if I can have a schedule for this month. I have been trying to read more sci-fi these days and this month, I will have an excuse to pick up more sci-fi books.

So, about me – I am a huge sci-fi fan and have always been attracted to this genre, whether it is books or movies or TV shows. I like anything and everything sci-fi. I will make separate posts about my favorite sci-fi books and movies.

Tentative Schedule:

04/11/2016: My Favourite Sci-Fi Movies
11/11/2016: My Favorite Sci-Fi Books

I am planning to read few sci-fi books this month. The book “Fevre Dream” by George R.R. Martin which was supposed to be my Halloween read is still not done. I am 25% or so done with that book. But it is so interesting that I do not feel like putting it down. I really want to know what is going to happen in that story. So I will only be able to read sci-fi books once I am done with that.
Also, since I have a small baby, I do not get any time to catch up on movies or TV shows. But I can read books after the baby is asleep in the night (which is not a lot of time). I need to get up early in the morning so cannot stay awake late in the night. But still I think I can manage to read atleast one sci-fi book.

Books that I might read and review:

  1. The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells warofworlds_sm
I cannot believe that I have not read this book yet, even though I am a huge fan of H.G. Wells. I read the first chapter recently and put it down as I picked up another book. I want to finish this book soon. I have seen the adaptation of this book which had Tom Cruise in it and loved it. This is THE ultimate alien book so really excited for it.
  2. The left of darkness by Ursula K. LeGuin lhod
This is one author that I want to read before this year ends. I have again started reading this book and have read just the first chapter. I heard this book is about a planet where there is no concept of gender and people can change gender or something.
  3. The Forever War by Joe Haldeman foreverwar_sm
Do you see a pattern here? Yes, I read first chapters of books and then put them down and pick up another book. This is happening from last few months. I am not able to finish a book. This is yet another book where I read the note from the author and read the first chapter and then kept it down. I am really interested in this book. It talks about a soldier who is fighting an intergalactic war and everytime he visits Earth, it is like few months for him but centuries would have passed on Earth.

Let me see how many books I will be able to read. I am also reading few sci-fi short stories these days so I might make a post on all the short stories that I have read recently.
Wish me luck!

  1. I used to like Sci-Fi once, during my school/college holidays. But now I guess I may not enjoy it that much. But I guess I could give it another try! All the best to complete your challenge 🙂

  2. I read War of the Worlds years ago and don’t remember much about it. Both Left Hand of Darkness and Forever War are classics and worth reading. Looking forward to your thoughts!

  3. Thanks for taking part in Sci-Fi Month 😀 I can highly recommend both War of the Worlds and The Forever War, the latter of which I actually read for the first time only recently.

  4. You have a great URL! Looking forward to hearing more about your favourite SF stories. I’ve not read ‘War of the Worlds’ but like you I’ve seen the Tom Cruise movie and although it’s been many years since I last saw it I do remember that I really enjoyed it 🙂 I think it’s about time that I sorted out a re-watch!

    Have a happy November!

    1. Same here.. it’s been so long since I saw the movie. I don’t even remember what happened in the movie, just that I liked it. I must watch the movie again soon. Thanks for visiting.

  5. *waves!* Hallo, Hallo Avada!

I’m so thankful you helped kick-off my blog visits by stopping by my SFN Schedule of Events! I’ve been a bit of a tortoise this year getting myself into gear! I’m eager to kick-off my visits tonight, responding to those who’ve found me, tweet a heap and dig inside FAR ORBIT. Meanwhile, I *love!* the look of your blog – such a clever theme! 🙂

I’m so curious to read your Lists! Curious because I wonder if we share any favourites together!? Previously I disclosed my Top 30 Sci-Fi Movies as of 2013. I have been considering doing an updated post about this, as there have been some incredible Sci Fi Films coming out since the that I’ve simply been over the moon wicked happy about seeing! 🙂 If I do that, I might wait til the end of November, when I’ve had the chance to cycle through everyone’s posts this year and find inspiration about how to write the post, as I like to mix things up & do things differently if I re-approach a topic! 🙂

Like you, I have trouble sometimes settling into my selections – sometimes books disappoint us, sometimes we’re not in the mood to greet them and other times, something just feels ‘off’. I definitely understand where your coming from! I, too, want to read The War of the Worlds at some point! Maybe for my 5th Year of SFN?! This year is a personal odyssey of redemption to bring all the lovelies to my blog I wasn’t able too previously. Here’s to having a wicked happy month-long sci-fi reading bliss of JOY! Til soon,..

    1. Thank you for visiting my blog Jorie. I just posted my favorite movies list, will be sure you check out your sci-fi movies list. You should definitely do an updated post. It will probably help us in finding more good sci-fi movies.
I will definitely take part in this event next year and probably will be more prepared with some good books to read.

  7. Looking forward to reading your reviews! I remember liking The Forever War though I never got around to reviewing it on my blog. I’ve been meaning to read The Left Hand of Darkness (or anything by Ursula K. Le Guin, really) but haven’t quite gotten to it yet…

  8. I’m also a super irregular blogger so I totally get not having a schedule for sci-fi month. Excited for your posts, though!

I’m also a huge sci-fi fan but I haven’t read the classics sci-fi books like those by Wells even though they come highly recommended. Oops.

I hope you have a great sci-fi month!
