The last post on my blog was inspired by my current read – Walk on Earth a stranger. This post is inspired by my most recently bought book – Vengeance Road. Only when I bought that book did I realize that I have not read a single book based in Arizona (in US). I lived in Arizona for couple of years and loved that place. Other than the weather, it is probably the best place in US I have lived in. The people there are so sweet and polite. I want to actively read more fiction or non-fiction based in Arizona. Please do recommend any book that you have read about Arizona.
Here is the list that I collected few days back with some books that I am interested in reading –
-
Vengeance road by Erin Bowman –
This is a vengeance story as I mentioned in my previous post. It is a typical wild west story with American Indians and lot of action. I am very eager to read this book. This is about a girl who is trying to avenge her father’s murder.

These Is My Words: The Diary of Sarah Agnes Prine, 1881-1901 (Sarah Agnes Prine #1) by Nancy E. Turner –
This is a memoir written by a woman growing up in the Arizona in the late 1800s which is supposed to be in the form of diary entries. I am sure this book will give us a lot of history about the struggles that people faced during that time period. I love reading history so I am sure I will love this book.

The Devil’s Highway: A True Story by Luis Alberto Urrea –
This is a book about how mexicans are smuggled into US through Arizona border it seems. This is a non-fiction about a group of men who attempted to cross the Mexican border into the desert of southern Arizona, through the “Devil’s Highway.”

In the heart of the canyon by Elisabeth Hyde –
It seems this is a novel about a rafting trip through the Grand Canyon “that changes the lives of everyone on board”. Supposed to be a thriller, adventure kind of story so I am interested in it. Also I love Grand Canyon and I think it is the most beautiful natural wonder in the world.

Almanac of the Dead by Leslie Marmon Silko –
This is about a book called the Almanac of the Dead probably written by Mayans (I could be wrong) and it sounds like a historical fiction-fantasy kind of book. One of the reviews mentioned this book as Games of Thrones meets Breaking Bad. Need to check this book.

Blood and thunder: an epic of the American west by Hampton Sides –
This is a proper history book of how the American west was won. I am sure it will be a harrowing account of all the wars that were fought. I heard this book reads like a fiction. This book is on the top of my list of books to buy soon.
After the Mexican-American war, we (Americans) stole Arizona from the Mexicans fair and square. In other words, we paid for and bought it. Of course, we dictated what price we will pay them.

Hmmm..I wasn’t aware of that either. Interesting piece of history. It possibly will reflect in some of the books based on the place.

Oh wow! I didn’t know Arizona was bought. We drove through Arizona once after Vegas – Grand Canyon and Sedona. So beautiful! But I felt sad about the reservations there.
