My India trip

It has been long since I visited India. I am desperately awaiting my India trip in august. I want to spend as many days as I can in India this time.

Desperate to –

  1. Meet cousins, aunts and uncles.
  2. Show India to my son.
  3. Eat, eat, eat out in every possible restaurant – there are so many new restaurants that I have never visited.
  4. Visit the n number of new malls that have opened up – I especially want to visit the Phoenix mall that I have heard so much about, from everyone around.
  5. Meet friends – All of my best friends are in India this time, except for one. Yayy! One friend had a baby and another friend is expecting a baby soon. 🙂
  6. Shop for Indian clothes.
  7. Shop for jeans – shorties like me have a hard time finding jeans that fit in US.
  8. Shop for accessories.
  9. Organize a function for my son – we are planning a grand function with all relatives.
  10. Sleep, read, indulge – I have not been able to do these properly from more than a year.
  11. Eat Death by chocolate at Corner Stone icecream – we used to frequent this place when I was working in India. It used to be a favorite joint to hangout with friends.
  12. Eat dosa at Vidyarthi Bhavan.
  13. Eat idly at Brahmin’s cafe bar  – this and the above one have been my usual haunts ever since I was a small kid. No matter where I eat idly or dosa, I still love the ones that I get in these two places. They are just unbeatable in taste.
  14. Eat pooris with saagu and all the other yummy dishes – Indian restaurants in US cannot be compared with the Indian restaurants in India. Never!
  15. See our renovated house – we added an extra floor to our house and the huge room on that floor is all mine. 😀
  16. Clean our house – throw unwanted books and other junk. This is something that mom and I need to do together.
  17. Go and watch Indian movies – it’s been ages since I watched a decent Indian movie in theaters. Hubby doesn’t like them so we end up watching mostly Hollywood movies.
  18. Play with my son full time and get enough practice to handle his crankiness alone – this is something that I am really looking forward to. Spending an entire day with him, with nothing else on the agenda.
  19. Forget all the worries and get rid of stress – I need to detoxify from this monotonous life.
  20. Get that “my home” feeling that is missing in this country – no matter how much you feel at ease, it is still not home.

Not looking forward to –

  1. Mad rush and lack of queues
  2. Traffic and driving on those crazy lanes
  3. Bad roads and pollution
  4. Lack of discipline
  5. Misogynists and anti-feminists
  6. Falling ill, which I do every time I visit India
  7. Meeting relatives who are best avoided
  8. Unwanted and unwarranted free advice on everything
  9. Comments about my son’s looks or behavior from people I don’t care for
  10. Listening to rude and sarcastic remarks from certain relatives.

  1. We were in Chennai for 6 months recently. We enjoyed all those things you had mentioned (plus some more) – except we did not have an infant with us. Enjoy as much as you can and come back safe. Here are some pointers.

We lived close to Phoenix Mall and visited there often. It is nice. Please visit the Rajasthani restaurant there. Excellent unlimited Thali. The price is 50% off on Tuesdays. May be call them ahead and make sure.

Movie theaters inside Phoenix Mall and Express Avenue Malls are much better than U.S. movie theaters.

Please ride the Metro and let us know. It looks like our BART.

One word of caution. We found escalators in Chennai (everywhere from airport to malls to train stations) are faster than USA. Whenever you are about to go in an escalator, please be careful since you are travelling with an infant.

    1. When you mentioned Phoenix Mall, I assumed you were mentioning the Phoenix Mall in Chennai. Only just now I found out there is a Phoenix Mall in Bangalore also. From your post, it looks like you were referring to the one in Bangalore.

      1. Yes I was referring to Bangalore. But there is a likely chance that I might visit Chennai too in this trip. So thanks for all the info SG. I will try to visit malls in Chennai as well. 🙂

  2. Yay! I am so excited for you! 😀
Went to Vidyarthi Bhavan last week and Mavalli Tiffin Rooms the week before that. Tomorrow is Brahmins! 🙂
The only thing for which I am not excited for you, is the traffic. Its horrible. Like, really really horrible. Keep a lead time of 90 minutes wherever you go.
Also, if you have any free time and wish to do a random blogger meet, would love to meet you! 🙂
