As an attempt to get back to blogging, I am doing this tag from BrokeandBookish. I liked today’s topic and thought of listing some books that I have been meaning to read for a while now, because of all the hype. I usually pick hyped and popular books first, since there is a higher chance that the book will be interesting.
- The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson – I feel I am cheating by including classics in this list. But this classic is so famous, that I am embarrassed to admit I still have not read it. I have been meaning to read it for a long time now.
- Little Women by Louisa May Alcott – Yet another classic that is famous and every single person, except for me has read it already. I should have read it as a kid, but I somehow did not. Rachel makes Joey read this book on Friends. I got some idea on what to expect from the book, thanks to that episode.
- Dune series by Frank Herbert – It is supposed to be the best science fiction novel out there. And I have still not read it. Science fiction is the genre that I enjoy reading the most, so I must read this series soon.
- The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith – I was disappointed with the other book (The Casual Vacancy) that J.K. Rowling wrote after Harry Potter series. I hated myself for not liking a book written by my favorite author. I did not pick up this series, since I don’t want to end up not liking another book of hers. I know I am being hard on myself, but I don’t want to end up disliking the one author that I love so much. I read first few pages of this book and did not find it interesting.
- The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt – I saw this book in the library and after seeing how big it is, I gave up the idea of reading in the near future. Also the blurb did not excite me that much. I am not sure I will like this book.
- Bridget Jones’s Diary by Helen Fielding – I have been meaning to read the book for a long time now. I did not watch the movie since I want to read the book first.
- The Immortals of Meluha by Amish Tripathi – This is probably the most famous series in India and I still did not read it. I am little wary of reading books based on Indian mythology, as I do not like people retelling stories with their own cooked up version. This is the reason I avoid all the retellings of Mahabharat and Ramayan.
- Outlander by Diana Gabaldon – Recently I heard a lot about this book, because of the TV series. But considering it is a romantic novel, I am sure I will not like it.
- All the light we cannot see by Anthony Doerr – Another famous novel and probably the most popular book released last year. I want to read this book soon when I get some free time.
- Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain – I have been hearing a lot of good reviews about this book too. I am neither an introvert nor an extrovert. I think I am somewhere in the middle but I like to talk A LOT. However, I married an introvert who doesn’t talk much and that’s why I am interested in reading this book.
P.S: I am trying to squeeze in some time to blog whenever possible. 😦 Boohoo, life has become so hectic these days!
I want to read Shiva Triology and the Introvert book you mentioned, very soon. I will.

Please do write a review if you read those books. I won’t be able to read them in the near future I think.

I would recommend Bridget Jones’s Diary. It is hilarious. I read it several years ago. Not sure if I would connect with the humor now, but that time, it was a laugh riot for me

oh I should read it soon then 🙂

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott are two of my favorite classics. I haven’t read Outlander by Diana Gabaldon but I want to. All the light we cannot see by Anthony Doerr and The Immortals of Meluha by Amish Tripathi on my unread shelf.

I think I want to do this list myself. Just will change it to “the hyped books that I will never read, even if you killed me” And leading the pack will be Fifty Shades of Grey 😀

Haha 🙂 I want to do that list too. I tried reading Fifty shades without knowing what it was about, when it was released. I gave up after few pages. I can never read that book.

With the arrival of new baby, I wonder from where you will get time to read these books. We have had this experience of getting up several times in the night.

I read the first two books in Shiva trilogy just before the last book in the series because there was so much hype :-). I really didnt know that the other books were hyped too. But yea, finding time for reading these days is becoming difficult with all the distractions.
