My previous list here consisted of places that I am planning to visit in near future (if I can). But this post will have another list of places that I have been wanting to visit from God-knows-how-long. These countries are far and making a trip to these places would make us spend $$$$, so I am not sure when I can visit these places. I am putting this post here, so that I can daydream about these places –

  1. New Zealand – Hobbiton Movie set tour

Hubby and I both love the Lord of the rings and the Hobbit. So I really want to visit the set and for that, I will have to make a trip to New Zealand. Just the description of the tour makes me want to book tickets. Also New Zealand has some great mountains to hike, as shown in the movies.

Your tour starts with a drive through the picturesque 1,250 acre sheep farm with spectacular views across to the Kaimai Ranges. Your guide will escort you through the twelve acre site recounting fascinating details of how the Hobbiton Movie set was created.

The Hobbit holes, Green Dragon™ Inn, Mill and other structures created for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films can be viewed and you will see how this beautiful piece of Waikato farmland was transformed into The Shire from Middle-Earth.

  2. Italy, Vatican City – architecture

I am a fan of Roman empire, culture, Julius Caesar, Venice, Rome, Leonardo Da Vinci’s paintings, Italian food and everything Italian. Would also love to visit Juliet’s house in Verona (which got added thanks to “Letters to Juliet” movie). This is one country that I am desperate to visit for multiple reasons.

  3. Japan – Bullet train

This is a small country which is good at technology. I have read about these bullet trains in my school textbooks. I have always wanted to ride on a bullet train. And there are many more reasons to visit this country.

  4. Scotland – Castles

I have a thing for castles and mountains (another post for mountains). There was a time (probably 10 yrs back) when I had subscribed to some website, which would send me pictures of castles in Scotland. I have always been a fan of these castles. I want to spend a night in a converted castle hotel. Ireland and England also have great castles, so the wishlist is not limited to Scotland. Check this list of castles turned hotels : CNN link  or the one given by Huffingtonpost or this link.

  5. London – King’s Cross station

How can I not visit this place, after reading Harry Potter series some hundreds of times?!!

  6. Egypt – Pyramids, Sphinx

These are only (old) wonders of the world left. After watching movies like “Cleopatra”, “Mummy” and being interested in history, this is a must see place for me.

Let me think of more places to add to this list. What else is on your list?

P.S: Will be back with posts which have some good content (unlike the ones I have been posting of late because of lack of time). Till then I will post some lists that I have in my mind. I am travelling again this weekend, so will be gone for a while.

  1. Italy seems to be there on many travel wish lists! Since I am not a reader of fantasy, the pyramids seem enticing. They have fascinated me ever since I was very young. Wonder if they will allow us to go inside and see what’s there. I think it’s high time I came up (at least) with a travel wish list within India and start exploring soon enough! 🙂

    1. Italy is famous for so many reasons. If I can visit one country, that would be Italy for sure. 🙂 You should come up with a list of your own. I would love to know what is on your list.

  2. I read your second list. You wrote “These countries are far and making a trip to these places would make us spend $$$$”. I don’t think so. New Zeeland and Egypt may be far away. I have a suggestion for other places. When you go home to India for a vacation, please buy tickets through London and ask for “break of journey”. They will allow for a few extra bucks. Same thing for Japan.

Also make a “break of journey” in London when coming back from India. Once in London, you can fly to Edinburg (1 hour and 22 minutes) or London to Rome (2 hours).

    1. I think I should start doing that SG. That way I can see places like London or Italy without shelling out lot of money. The only problem there is leaves. 😦 I still need to figure out how to travel, without losing all my leaves to make a trip to India. But I still want to try this idea next time.

  3. This “break of journey” different airlines have different names. Some call it “stop over” and some call it “lay over”.
