2012 has been a pretty hectic year because of the wedding, moving back to US, finding a job and then trying to manage home and office alone (also with hubby’s help). But still getting adjusted to so many new things and phases in life pretty much drained all my strength. So I was pathetic as a blogger, took multiple month breaks and have blogged nothing much other than book reviews this year. I haven’t been regularly commenting on other blogs, even though I have read many of them on reader. I was lazy to click and comment.
And it has been 7 years since I started blogging. Yayy! 🙂
I hope 2013 will be less hectic and I get to read more, blog more and have more free time to enjoy. Though I doubt it, considering all the planning we have done for 2013 already.
Still I hope to read more books this year and hence I am enrolling in some reading challenges for next year. After reading PsychBabbler’s post on her reading challenges, I felt even I should have one. I am hoping that this post will motivate me and make me read more books than I read this year (which was really less compared to last year’s).
1001 books you must read before you die
27 books – done so far, which is too less. I will try to read atleast 10 5 books from this list.
Some of the books I want to read as part of the challenge (will update this list as and when I feel like):
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd(Hercule Poirot #4)The Great GatsbyRebecca- Kafka on the Shore
Thank You, Jeeves (Jeeves, #5)- Around the World in Eighty Days
- Contact
- The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
- Great Expectations
New author challenge 2013
There are many famous authors whom I have never read. I want to read and explore these new authors.
This year my aim is to cover as many new authors as I can. Planning to not read more than 1 book from any author.
Level : 15 new authors
Some of the authors I want to read:
Jules Verne(7 books by him)George R. R. MartinF. Scott FitzgeraldRobert Kanigel- Haruki Murakami
- Robin Cook
- Stephen King
- Ken follett
- Mary Higgins Clark
- Elie Wiesel
Markus Zusak- Jhumpa Lahiri
Orson Scott CardDaphne Du MaurierMike Brown
Nerdy non-fiction challenge
I read plenty of non-fiction last year. I want to continue the trend and read some quality non-fiction.
Level – Geek: 4-6 books in at least 2-3 different categories
Categories –
- Science-Nature, Weather, Biology, Geology
- Travel
- Autobiography, Biography, Memoir
- Technology, Engineering, Computers, etc
Some of the books that I want to read:
- Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail
How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It ComingDragons of Eden: Speculations on the Evolution of Human IntelligenceThe Man Who Knew Infinity- Night
2013 Book to movie challenge
This is something that I have been doing from a long time. Read books and then watch movies based on those books.
Level – Movie Devotee – read 6 books and watch their movies
I want to continue doing that this year. Some books for this challenge:
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the SeaA Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1)The Great GatsbyEnder’s Game- The book thief
A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, #2)A Storm of swords (A Song of Ice and Fire, #3)- Shutter Island
- Contact (already watched the movie. But still want to read and watch again)
Rebecca- Message in a Bottle (already watched the movie)
- No Country For Old Men
I will also sign up for Goodreads Challenge. I will start with a signup for 52 25 books this time.
I also want to make progress in completing Top 100 Sci-fi books and also the BBC list here.
I too want to read more (non-fiction), but I don’t think I can get involved in any book reading challenges! My blogs take up most of my time and in the spare time, I read a few books (mostly from sweet blogAdda 🙂 ).
I feel that there should be more Indian authors attempting various non-mass genres. I wonder why everyone wants to become a Chetan Bhagat, when he himself is not exactly inspirational!
Anyway, all the best for your reading challenge. Do let us know some good non-fiction books, as you read. Autobiographies and biographies are my favorite… 🙂

I am planning on doing something similar. Given that I have 50 odd books on my shelf that I am yet to read I am planning on challenging myself to read 100 books next year. I did complete 75 this year 🙂 . Hey… the image you used for 1001 books before you die is actually the cover for the book A Clockwork Orange. I thought you were challenging yourself to read that book as its definitely on my list for next year 🙂 .

I will start with 50 and if possible increase it to maybe 75. Let me see how hectic 2013 gets..
Actually I borrowed the image from the blog which is hosting this contest. I have watched the movie A clockwork orange and hated it. So dont think I will be reading the book. Not sure how the book is, but the movie was gross.
