It’s a small small world

World is indeed very small. This is what I have been thinking for a while now. I am back to work after a break of 3 months, when I played the housewife role. I had enough of it as I got utterly terribly bored. I have noticed something in my life. Usually the “goodbye” that I say doesn’t end a relationship/friendship in my case. I keep bumping onto a person even after I feel I will never meet that person again in my life.

The best example has been my hubby. We met during an interview and chatted. I never ever thought I would be marrying him or even meeting him again. But destiny had different plans. While selecting the college, I chose the college where he studied during my first round but in the second round dropped it. He did the same thing with my college. It was much more than a coincidence, in my opinion. Probably we were destined to meet each other one way or the other. And this time, the second time when we met, we got married 🙂 🙂

friends

I said “Goodbye” to so many friends here thinking I will never come back to US again. But again destiny had different plans. I am now back and have been meeting friends whom I thought I might not meet again in my life. It is always nice to meet old friends and the feeling is amazing. The sadness that persisted in my heart about leaving all my friends behind is gone. When I met them after couple of yrs, it didn’t seem at all like we have been apart for that long. It feels like yesterday that we parted our ways and now our paths have crossed again.

I started working and on the first day I realized, I already knew two people in my team. One of the guys was my MS friend and the other a friend’s friend. I have crossed paths with this friend’s friend so many times in life. I went to attend a function somewhere and lo, he was there with his entire family. Now he is my teammate, which I never thought would happen. And my MS friend, I knew he worked for the same company. But I never imagined I would end up in his team.

Has such a thing happened to you guys anytime? I keep meeting the same set of people. I do not think I have been to any educational institution or workplace where I did not know even a single person beforehand. It is not that I have 1000s of friends. I am pretty much reserved and have limited set of friends, but I keep meeting them in unexpected places 🙂 Even though the world is so huge, such incidents make you feel it is probably not as huge as we think it is.

I realized a couple of things in these few months:

  • Married life is more interesting compared to single life, and it is totally different. Expect a 360 degree turn in your life. I enjoyed my single life too (because of the independence) and now enjoying married life. But I feel everyone must get married once in their life. It is nice to have someone with whom you can share your joy and sorrow.
  • Family and friends are both essential. I cannot live without either of them.
  • Love is a beautiful feeling and what is more beautiful than loving someone? Being loved and cared by others.
  • Thankfully, hubby and I have a lot of common interests – like interest in movies, sci-fi, technology and science. We even work in the same field, so we can discuss our work at home. I think those who have no hobbies/interests in common will definitely have some trouble getting along.

  1. Crossing the paths of people whom I am familiar with doesn’t happen in my case. I am sort of fine that it doesn’t, because people change a lot within a few years. I would rather have the memories of them from before. I am not sure if it happens only with me, consider yourself lucky if the people who matter to you are still their own cheerful selves.

A person was sitting on the other aide I have seen him I thought, later it turned out we had started our jobs on the same day at the same station years ago….

Just after the shift a Indian guy came over and said bloody hell.. noooooo…..
And guess he and me were school mates..

  5. Sometimes goodbye is not even a goodbye. You never know who re-enters your life most unexpectedly and when. It will come out of the blue. 🙂 And then they stay on to become your greatest friends.

I agree with all the bullet points you have written. Just got married last year, so I quite understand the reflection of thoughts! 🙂

  6. I must admit I’ve not had such coincidences ever. Yes I have friends. I keep the ones I am close to even when they are miles away. But as for meeting people from my past who I haven’t been in touch with at a work place or even in the same suburb, hasn’t happened!

Maybe the world is small… Maybe it isn’t. But what I think is, that the people you make friends with, keep bumping into you because the friendship is so strong that even the complexities of life cannot just make those friendships vanish. 🙂

Remember the movie ‘Serendipity’ ? 😀

  8. It is nice to know that you are happy in your married life.

I love meeting old friends too, which are very few. I had good friends in my middle age. I find it difficult to come closer to anyone nowadays, age? Still I feel as if I am continuing with my my old friendship with my old friends when I meet them now. Strange.
