Countdown starts..

It is almost June and in July, the last potter movie is going to get released. This will be the last thing about Harry Potter that we are going to hear. After this, there wont be any Harry Potter release and I will not be eagerly waiting for anything in my life. Feels sad. Atleast from past 10 yrs or so, I have been anticipating for some or other HP release, either book or movie. I cannot imagine my life without HP gossip, news, pictures, discussions. Just cant imagine.

July 15th. Waiting so eagerly for it.

I’ve had so many posts about Harry Potter earlier. I thought I should have a post on my obsession with HP.

I had just watched the first Harry Potter movie and I kinda liked it. Not that it made much sense to me back then. D, a close friend of mine who sat next to me in class read the first HP book and said she loved it. After a lot of recommendation from her, I asked my dad to get me the book. Next day when he came back from work, he got the book(s). I had asked him to get me the first part but he came with 4 parts. That was how my HP journey began.

I read the first part and loved it. The second part was mindblowing. Second part is still my most favourite part, because it scared me the most. The third part was good too, because we learnt so much about Harry’s parents and their death. Fourth was pretty okay compared to second and third. After I finished reading these, the movies came. I loved the second movie the most. Third was not good, but fourth was okay. Fourth was good because of Cedric Diggory mainly.. ahem.. At that time, we were a gang of four girls and all four of us had a crush on Pattinson. One of us even decided that she wanted a guy like Pattinson as husband. Hehe.

When the fifth book got released, I had my final exams. But I could not resist buying the book. So my dad who had booked it in advance, brought the book home on the day it was released. But I had an exam on the next day. I read just the first chapter, since I could not resist it. After that my mom hid the book somewhere 😦 She said she would give it to me, only after my exams got over. The wait was irresistible. In that book, one character dies. Even after knowing this, how could I stay put? I was so desperate to know who dies that I could not even prepare for my exam 😛 After much pleading, my mom gave me the book and I turned it to the last page, found out who dies and then gave her the book back.

When the sixth book was released, I was happy since I had no exams. But our house was being painted, which meant I had no place to sit quietly and read. I sat in a corner somewhere and without any break, finished the book the day I got it. I spoiled the fun by telling who dies to all my friends, who had not read the book yet 😛

The fifth movie was not good and I watched it with my friends K and B, who is as obsessed about HP as I am. We watched it on the first day, first show. After that, next day we again watched it by streaming. Sixth movie, sadly I watched it alone since there were no friends interested in watching HP 😦 And I being a HP fan, wanted to watch it on the first day itself, but I did not like the movie. I thought of watching it again in IMAX 3D but gave up the thought after seeing how pathetic it was.

I watched 5 and 6 in US.

The last book got released when I was in US and thankfully, during holidays. So I got to attend the release function. I went there with B, who is also a big fan. Seventh book release post. It will be one of the most memorable days in my life, since I got the book at midnight. I did not do anything until I had finished it, since it was released on friday night and I had the whole weekend to read. The funny thing was that my mom somewhere read that Harry does not die. I told this to B and he blasted me, since I spoiled the fun 😛 We both read the book, thinking Harry cannot die and confident about a happy ending. Hehe.

Seventh movie released last year and well, it exceeded my expectations. I had very low expectations from it, since the 6th one was horrible. But it turned out to be okay, but not as good as 1st and 2nd movie for sure. Chris Columbus is a great director. Wish they had signed him up for the other movies too.

I liked Hagrid a lot in the first few books, but later on Dumbledore became my most favourite character (other than Harry, of course).

And there are many people who watch the movie and say it does not make sense. To all such people, please read the books first. The movies are really not comparable to the books. And HP is not meant for kids! Lot of adults like them and I know even many old people who like them.

Wish I could own these. Look how cute they are:

  1. I had a strange habit of reading the last page(s) first and then starting from the first page, when I was reading fiction. I don’t know why! But the authors were so good – even though I knew the ending, the books were still interesting! I am not reading fiction any more, right from the day I finished my college. So, I have not read any HP book or seen any HP movie. But I did think that HP was for kids. Thanks for removing that mental barrier. If I ever go back to reading fiction, I will surely read this.

Also, I am yet to see a movie that is better than the book from where it was adapted. Even Jurassic Park (I saw the movie first, and then read the book) was more interesting on paper than on screen.

    1. Sometimes the suspense is too much to handle and we end up reading the last page 🙂 I do that lot of times. True some authors can still hold our attention, even though we are aware of the ending. You should try to read Harry Potter sometime. But cannot guarantee that you will like it. Because I know many people who did not like after reading. But if you like fantasy/imaginative stuff and like the idea of good-conquers-evil, you will love it. It is definitely not only for kids.
Even I have always found books to be better than movies. I read JP recently and the book is really better than the movie.

  2. The moment I met you online (i.e. saw your comment somewhere 🙄 ), I knew you were die hard HP fan (it was hard to miss because of your WP nickname)… I really don’t know your real name :O Or may be I do but I don’t know who’s who 😉 I am a big HP fan too 🙂 I have read these books so many times that I have lost count now. Still whenever I feel down, I pick a random HP book and read my favorite parts. You would not believe it but I read most of HP books online!! Sitting in front of computer whole night, adjusting brightness etc settings n all 😀

    1. 😀 😀 yeah my nickname makes it apparent that I am a HP fan.. hehe.. You know my real name. I am on your goodreads list. Maybe some memory charm backfired and you forgot 😉 Even I have lost count of the number of times I have read these books. I love the quotes, especially those of Dumbledore’s the most. 🙂
wow! online? Arent they really huge in size? Your eyes must have swollen for sure..

  3. I posted above comment halfway in hope I would be first 😦 Damn!!
Anyway, I wanted to mention one funny thing (coz I know you would agree)… Whenever anyone asks me ‘What is your dream gal like?’ … I wish in my mind.. god, let her be a HP fan too 😀 😀 There are people who became my fast friends just because we shared obsession for HP 😉

Hagrid was always my favorite character until Dumbledore took his place. I like ‘Chamber of Secrets’ the most (and Deathly Hallows the least 😛 )… movie and book both. I guess nearly every HP fan likes 2nd book n movie.

    1. Oh you too! Even I say that all the time.. that I only want a Harry Potter fan. If he is not, I will probably convert him into one 😉 My friend did that. She made her husband read all the books (forcibly) 😀
And even I become easily close to those who are HP fans. Has happened lot of times.
Oh nice.. you liked Hagrid and then Dumbledore too?! cool.. I literally cried when Dumbledore died in the book 😦 But the movie did not stir me one inch and I did not cry. Yeah 2nd was really the best I guess. I hated the 6th movie the most. It was the worst I felt, even though the book was not bad.

      1. After reading your post, I got excited, asked around and got HP7 Part I movie from a friend.. 😀 I went knocking on his door at 11.30 PM to get the movie and watched it till 3 AM 😎 And now I have it in my phone for reviewing parts I liked. I must say, HP7 part 1 has nearly the best screenplay so far in HP movies….
I think I should also write about my obsession of HP books and how they helped me in my lonely times…

      2. haha..really? 🙂 Yeah screenplay was really good in HP7-part1..
Why don’t you make a post on HP? This is the ideal time to write on HP, now that the movie is about to release 🙂

    1. 🙂 yeah as a person, I really admire that lady. I read her kinda autobiography and was smitten over by her thoughts and the hardship that she went through in her life. She really faced lot of hardships. She lost her mother and her feeling for her mother got reflected in Harry’s craving for his mother.
Try to read a book sometime, you might like it.

  5. Awaiting the 2nd part definitely. the first part left me in anticipation for more……
And it’s difficult to condense that book into even 2 parts. It was well-made.

  7. This is THE POST defining your obsession with HP. Not that your alias was not enuf, this surely nailed it 😛

Even am eagerly waiting for the movie. What movies have done is helps us imagine about the storyline in much more details. Did you ever tried watching the movie and then reading the book? I am sure you will be able to imagine the whole story much much better and could relate.

I am sad that nothing more of HP will be released.. wish there be more and more of it as the whole fan base has got enuf enthu.. may be they should release The Tales of Beedle the Bard, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Quidditch Through the Ages, or for that matter Harry Potter prequel as a movie too…

    1. Hehe.. 😀
Yes that is the reason why I watch the movies even though they are pathetic. They help us imagine lot of stuff and it is nice to see those things in the movie. Reading after watching movie is totally a different kind of experience. Can match faces to characters..
I feel they should make a TV series of HP and show every minute detail present in the book. That will be really cool. Prequel would also be good, about his parents, Voldy etc. They did not show Voldy’s parents too in the movie, which I so desperately wanted to see 😦

  8. Though I am not a HP fan, I could understand the enthusiasm as many of many my friends are HP fans. Onething though, the whole enthusiasm going off once they ve seen the movie. They use to start complaining that many things are not covered.

Hopefully this last one is fulfils all the expectations.. 🙂

    1. yes the movies arent good. They cut lot of scenes and added some unnecessary changes/twists to the story. But I still cant resist myself from watching them 🙂
Seeing that it is David Yates, I am thinking that it will not be very good. I will try to watch it with least expectations, like I did for the previous movie 🙂

  9. The first paragraph told you are a HP obsessive girl. 😛
I won’t say I don’t like HP series but the level of my obsession is much lower when compared to you. 😀
An era of HP will now come to a halt; sad, but cherishing every movie and book is what we all can do. 🙂

  11. I was just trying to find the answer for “Define Harry Potter fan.” Just lifted something frm net and did some minor changes here..
The characteristics of a HP fan tend to be someone who has an obsessive and even irrational views on the book, often linked with an over-developed sense of entitlement and / or huh… victimisation and, usually, a highly developed sense of perspective about the movie. They usually believe that the very fact that they are a fan of the book/movie which actually entitles them to special or exclusive treatment or that they are being persecuted by numerous different parties (the creator, the producers, other fans, etc) because of their love of the book/movie. Most of them has completely lost perspective on exactly how important is the fan cub and their views on same is in the scheme of things, and don’t understand why non-fans don’t feel the same as they do. As a result of all of this, even polite or minor disagreement with them about the book/movie and their views as a personal attack, which often leads to them adopting a highly combative/defensive tone towards others; in discussions, they will usually resort to unrelated all out attack on others and place value judgments on them, not their arguments. And any jokes made about the book/movie or them will be responded to either with out-of-proportion offence or a pointless deconstruction of why the joke is ‘inaccurate’. This also suits to ‘HP haters’, masked as fans, devoted to their hate views. They can’t exist without each other. More fans leads to more haters and vice versa.

    1. obsessive: yes, irrational views: no.
Hmm I feel world will soon get divided into two parts – Harry Potter fans and Harry Potter haters. I always seem to easily befriend a HP fan. But I have lot of friends who are HP haters too.

  14. I myself love HP very much… I have never read novels like that in my life… 7 weeks.. 7 books.. quite a thing for me..

But I missed those anticipating days for the next book release… movies for sure don’t have the charm of book. They just lost it with their pathetic makings.. Hope the final one is grand and captures every details of the book.. love to see Neville cuts off the Nagini’s head.. 😀 😀

    1. Yep movies arent as good as the books, for sure. But in a way I like to watch them, because whatever I imagined while reading, it’s nice to see it on the screen for real. Hope this final one turns out to be good. Not much expectations though, considering it is David Yates again 😦
Neville cutting Nagini’s head will be one of the best scenes for sure 🙂 🙂

  15. Aah, I cannot wait for the final Harry Potter either (and it’s 3-D to boot!). Unfortunately, I will be watching it with a couple of non-HP fans (who have never read or watched any of the books/movies), so I am a leeetle bit annoyed I cannot share the fun with them.

However, they are pretty sporting to come along with me, so can’t complain too much 🙂

    1. Watching with non-HP fans is bit annoying 😦 Even I watched with non-HP fans this time. Problem is you will have to explain relevance of each and every scene, which you cant; otherwise you will miss out on important dialogues.. did you watch the movie? I liked the latest movie 🙂
