What : Movies of 2010
Tangy : Like we rounded up our year with the Collection of Perky Tweets (Part 123) & the Best TangySpicy Picks, Avada Kedavra has winded up the year with the movies she loved watching in 2010. So here is a compilation of all the must-watch movies of 2010 by Avada. Check out if you’ve missed any!

Happy New Year everyone! As always, I have a list of all the movies that I loved watching in 2010 (just like I did in 2008 : Movies of 2008 and in 2009 : Movies of 2009). Hatrick it is, the third time I have come up with such a list. These movies are not essentially the best performers at box office or critically acclaimed but I definitely enjoyed watching them on screen. I just realized that the number of movies I watched this year has doubled as compared to last year. I will become bankrupt if I keep spending so much of money on movie tickets 😛

    1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

harrypotter_small

This was the most awaited movie of the year. Being a Potter fanatic, I was just waiting for this movie to get released. And thankfully, it exceeded my expectations. I had expected it to be boring like the previous installment, but it closely followed the book (probably owing to the fact that they made 2 parts out of the final book). Wish they had done the same thing to Half-blood Prince, which is one of my most favourite parts. All potter fans who have already read the book loved the movie. But those who havent read the book, found it not so interesting, since there was no scope for much “action” in this. Now I am waiting eagerly for the second part.

    1. Inception

inception

Much has been said about this movie everywhere, and also on my blog earlier. I simply loved the movie and expecting it to win atleast Best picture, Best director and Best actor award in this year’s Oscars. My review of the movie is here.

    1. Shutter Island

shutter-island

Another great brain boggling movie of Leonardo, which simply put was one of his best ever. My review of the movie is here.

    1. The Social Network

the_social_network_small

This was one movie which I never expected to be that interesting. But the script was great and I simply loved the dialogues. Even though it may not be completely true, the story was great. The actors did a great job and it was nice knowing more about the youngest billionaire in the world 🙂 I liked Eduardo Saverin’s character the most and Andrew Garfield has acted really well.

    1. Toy Story 3

toy-story-3_small

This movie is one of the best animation movies ever made. Amazing hilarious, a unique plot and set of interesting characters. This is one movie which everyone can relate to, since every person has played with toys when he/she was young. My review of the movie is here.

    1. Tron : Legacy

tron-legacy_small

I loved Tron, which released in 1982 a lot and as a result watched its sequel. You will love it if you are a computer geek or if you love playing computer games. This movie did what Avatar did last year. Even though the story and script were not that great, the special effects and graphics were something to look for. I love such movies with special effects so enjoyed the movie.

    1. How to Train Your Dragon

howtotrainyourdragon_03

This is probably one of the few non-Pixar animation movies that was great. A very touching story, hilarious in its own way, adventurous and different is how I would describe it. Read my review of the movie here. Don’t miss this movie if you love animation movies.

    1. Clash of the Titans

clash-of-the-titans

I just looooove Greek mythology – titans, Zeus, Perseus, Hades, Olympians. I knew this story before but enjoyed watching the movie. I did not find any flaw in the movie. Another reason to watch the movie was that Sam Worthington (of Avatar) plays the lead role.

    1. Robin Hood

robin_hood_small

Story about how Robin Longstride ended up becoming Robin Hood. I knew Robin Hood’s story about how he was an outcast but still helped the poor, how he was one of the best archers ever, how he lived in Sherwood forest and how the Sheriff was always on a lookout for him and had kept a prize on his head. But I never knew how he ended up becoming an outcast. This movie is about that and I liked it a lot. Expecting a sequel to this 🙂

    1. Kick-Ass

Hit-Girl (Chloe Moretz)
Hit-Girl (Chloe Moretz)

This was one of the most humorous movies this year (according to me). This movie is about wannabe superheroes, ordinary people who wear superhero dress and start acting like superheroes. Kick-ass, Hit Girl, Big Daddy, Red Mist – all the 4 wannabes were so funny. I love the Hit Girl the most, she is so cute and adorable. Watch this movie if you want something different and funny.

Dave Lizewski: With no power, comes no responsibility. Except, *that* wasn’t true.

    1. Despicable Me

despicable_me

Never thought this would be so funny. A very cute movie about how 3 girls end up making a dad out of a villain. I love the cute girls (especially the youngest black-haired girl). This is one villain you would never be scared of 🙂

    1. Shrek Forever After

shrek-forever-after_small

The final installment of Shrek was here and though Shrek series got less and less humorous, this one was better than the previous I feel. I liked the first Shrek movie the most and then the quality of humor decreased with every part that came after the first. This one was still okay and no regrets for watching it.

    1. Iron Man 2

iron-man-2_small

Not as good as the first part I felt. But still it was good. Iron man 2 has lot of action and it is great to see the superhero in action once again.

    1. Letters to Juliet

letters_to_juliet_small

This is such a cute movie, with some funny moments, many tear jerking moments! I never meant to watch it in theater but after my friend wanted to watch some “non-action” movie, we ended up watching it. Watch it if you love mushy mushy and emotional movies.  It is a movie about finding lost love. When a reply is given to a letter written to Juliet after many years it was written, a woman tries to find the man she loved many decades back. Will she be able to find him? Is he even alive after so many years? Find out after watching the movie.

    1. Alice in Wonderland

aliceinwonderland

This movie did well at box office and plenty of people liked it. I love Alice in Wonderland written by Lewis Caroll. But I did not like this modified version much. I watched it only because Johny Depp has acted in it and it is a delight to watch him. I felt this movie resembled Narnia a lot, I mean one single girl fighting a queen and her army etc. I like Alice as a young sweet girl lost in the wonderland trying to find her way back home, can’t imagine her as a person holding sword. Sorry! just can’t buy that idea.

    1. Eclipse

eclipse

I am not a Twilight series fan by any means but I do not hate it either. It is entertaining and because of the fantasy element in it, I like to read and watch it. Another reason like I stated last year is Robert Pattinson 🙂 This movie was good and like always, Twilight movies do some justice to the book, unlike Harry Potter movies. It seems the fourth book will be made into two movies. I will definitely watch them without fail.

    1. Diary of a Wimpy Kid

diary-of-a-wimpy-kid

I have read all the books in this series and seeing the first part made into a movie was nice. Greg is so cute and Rowley too. I simply looooved the movie, just like I loved the books. It is about a kid’s adventures in school and I could so easily relate to many incidents that happen in his life. If you are looking for a hilarious entertaining movie, your search comes to an end here.

    1. Dear John

dear_john_small

I read the book before watching the movie but still liked the movie. Even though the hero is kind of wooden-faced, the female lead has acted really well. I love the story, plot everything. Read my review of the book here.

    1. The Bounty Hunter

bounty-hunter

This was another unplanned movie. Never thought I would watch it in theater but when a friend pulled me to this movie, I did not regret watching it. Jennifer Aniston is one of my most favourite actresses. She is so beautiful but in this movie she looks little old and you can see that in the wrinkles on her face. I like Gerald Butler too and watching the two ex-spouses fight was humorous – light funny movie 🙂

    1. Valentine’s Day

valentines-day_small

This is a movie about what happens to many couples on a single day – Valentine’s day. There are lot of separate threads and finally they all get connected at the end. I loved this movie and Julia Roberts’ love story was the best. Your curiosity is aroused throughout the movie as you keep wondering whom she is going to meet after all and only at the end do you get to know 🙂 All the love stories are sweet!

    1. Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

percy_jackson_small

Just like the book, I did not like this movie much. But a good time pass movie nevertheless. Special effects were good and if you compare it with the book, the movie did justice to the book completely.

There were other good movies which I did not watch like

The fighter

      ,

The King’s speech

which I am sure I will not like.
There are some 2010 hits, that I hope to watch in future:
  1. Tangled
  2. Black Swan
  3. Little Fockers
  4. The Illusionist
There are some movies coming in 2011 which look promising to me. Here is the list:

  1. Sanctum
  2. Gnomeo and Juliet
  3. Unknown
  4. Apollo 18
  5. Red Riding Hood
  6. Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules
  7. Source Code
  8. Thor
  9. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
  10. The Hangover Part II
  11. Kung Fu Panda 2
  12. X-Men: First Class
  13. Green Lantern
  14. Cars 2
  15. Transformers: Dark of the Moon
  16. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
  17. Winnie the Pooh
  18. Captain America: The First Avenger
  19. Cowboys & Aliens

  8. Wonderful list of movies again Avada! you always come up trumps when its about shortlisting favorites.. mass favorites 😛

From your list above i have seen a few movies already and will be viewing a few very soon..

Toy Story 3 – As I told you over your review post, I liked this movie..

How to train your Dragon – I wasnt expecting this to charm me but let me tell you, it won the coveted best movie i watched this year award 😉

Clash of the titans – The story line was a bit weak and the punches were missing… sure the action was awesome no doubt but it didnt just had the thrills.

Valentines Day – I would rate this movie really high as this movie truly reflects how your choice of your parter affects you… the last line that Alphonso says that “I married my friend” took me to believe that you need to be a friend first and then a parter in life.. awesome movie..

yet to watch are Robin hood, Shrek Forever after, Iron Man 2, Letters to Juliet

other movies i dont have an opine right now but surely will comment later

    1. Thanks Hemal 🙂 Glad to know you liked many of the movies that I liked – How to train your dragon was surprisingly good right? Never expected it to be that good.. Agree on what you said about Clash of the Titans but I still liked it, maybe because I am crazy of Greek mythology 🙂 Valentine’s day was a good movie, I liked it.. Watch Letters to Juliet, it is a very sweet movie.. I liked the story of it.. the rest you can skip, not that good.. Robin hood was an okay watch, and so were Iron man 2 and Shrek forever after..

Tron Legacy is there purely for the graphics and special effects.. Bounty Hunter only because I like Jennifer Aniston and same goes with Robin Hood, only because I am so fascinated with the character.. But otherwise agree they were just okay movies.

My favourite movies for 2010 were Mother and Child (starring Naomi Watts, Annette Bening & Samuel L Jackson) and The King’s Speech. From your list, I only want to watch Despicable Me (on DVD now)
