Best Animation Movies

This post is not being updated to add new movies. Check this page here (Top Animated Movies) for an up-to-date list, which will be periodically updated to add newer favourites.

I am crazy about animation movies. I have watched them ever since I was a small kid and still watch them. I never miss watching any animation movie that gets released. I thought it was time for me to make a list of all those animation movies which top my favourite list.

Here is a list of my most favourite animation movies of all times in the order of most favourite to least favourite.

Aladdin – 1,2,3 (1992, 1994, 1995)

aladdin2

I had my first crush on Aladdin. I loved the movies because as far as I can remember, these were the first set of animation movies I ever watched as a small kid. I just loved Aladdin’s character so much that I watched every episode of the serial on TV too. The first thing I did was grab CDs of the movie as soon as they got released some years back and I keep watching them again and again. I just love the songs from the first movie – “A whole new world”, “Prince Ali”, “Arabian Nights”,”A friend like me”, all the songs 🙂 And yes! I have even memorized those songs.

Little Mermaid (1989)

3-7-images-little-mermaid-g

This was another movie that I loved so much when I was a kid. I love the songs in this movie too – especially “Under the sea” gets me laughing even today. Ariel is such an adorable character and I love Sebastian the most in this movie. I have also watched each and every episode of this series too that came on the TV.

Finding Nemo (2003)

finding-nemo

Finding Nemo made me fall in love with Pixar Animation studios. Such a cute story of a father fish Marlin and son fish, Nemo. I love Dory’s character too, she is very funny.

Up (2009)

up

Up is another cute movie with a naughty kid and an old grandpa. Read my review of this movie here.

Toy Story – 1,2,3 (1995, 1999, 2010)

toy-story1

This movie reminded me of all the toys that I ever owned. Another cute movie from Pixar. My review of the latest Toy story movie here.

Cars (2006)

cars-lightning-mcqueen

I never loved Cars so much before. After watching this movie, I am sure you will love racing cars. Mater is one funny character in this. Shining Lightning McQueen is the cutest car you have ever seen 🙂 Oh by the way, my car is also red in color.

Ice Age -1,2,3 (2002, 2006, 2009)

ice-age-2

Sid is the funniest character in this. I love the movie mainly because of him. I am not sure I would have liked it, if Sid was not there in the movie. The first movie is cute because of that small kiddo and its fights with Sid. Lovely movie!! Read my review of the second part of the movie is here.

Lion King -1,2 (1994, 1998)

lionking

Lion King is probably the only movie in my list which is not very funny. It is a serious movie about how a greedy Lion kills its own brother to get hold of the crown. I just love it for all the emotional elements in it. I love all the songs in the movie – “Hakuna Matata”, “Circle of Life”, “Can you feel the love tonight?” and “I just cant wait to be king”.. Simply superb songs. I listen to them even today.

Madagascar -1,2 (2005, 2008)

madagascar

A movie cannot get funnier than this one.. all the four animals along with the penguins and the lemurs.. just too much to handle. Rib-tickling..

Monsters Inc (2001)

monsters-inc_alt

I love this movie mainly because of the kid Boo. The kid and its antics are really hilarious. Another Pixar movie 🙂

Wall-E (2008)

walle3

Wall-E is one movie which hardly has any dialogues but still you laugh, feel what Wall-E feels. A robot love story is something that we had never seen before. Eve and Wall-E – one of the most romantic couples we have ever seen.

A Bug’s Life (1998)

tumblr_l0ca6xt3ly1qbv8neo1_400

Bugs are something that I scream at if I see one, but this movie was so funny that for a moment I forgot that these are the same bugs that I am scared of. I love the circus insects the most, especially the two blue ones which look like. This is the first Pixar masterpiece that we got to see.

Ratatouille (2007)

Ratatouille was a very strange name and the story is even more strange. Ever heard about a rat which loves to cook? You will see one in this. Ghost of the cook guiding the rat is absolutely funny.

The Incredibles (2004)

the-incredibles-the-incredibles-620936_1280_994

Incredibles was a movie about superheroes. Every person in this movie has a special power. My favourite in this was the small baby, which shows its power only in the last scene.

Pinocchio (1940)

pinocchio-still2-blu-ray

This has been my favourite story book and later on movie ever since I was a very small kid. There is something about this story that I just adore a lot. A wooden boy gets life but his nose keeps growing whenever he lies. Jiminy Cricket is my favourite character from this movie.

Beauty and the Beast (1991)

disney-beauty-and-the-beast-3d

A classic movie which was my favourite when I was a kid. I still love to watch the song “Be our guest”. This is one fairy tale which happens to be my most favourite.

I realized that I missed one movie from the list and after watching that movie again, I feel even more so. I made the movie enter the list today (25/10/2010). So here it is:

How to train your dragon (2010)

how-to-train-your-dragon-movie

I just fell in love with Night fury dragon in this movie and even the kid Hiccup is very cute in that role. Gerard Butler has given voice to Stoick, chief of the Vikings and Hiccup’s dad. Just love the way in which they have depicted a friendship story between a human and a dragon. The movie is from Dreamworks and is worth watching.

As you can notice, all the Pixar movies ever released have made it to the list. I really love all the movies made by Pixar. They have not disappointed me so far in any movie. Each movie has a completely different plot, setting, characters which are unique and there is a freshness in the script. That is what makes me love Pixar Animation Studios.

Do you have any favourite animation movie?

P.S: I googled for all the images and have not given credit to them. Please leave a comment if you want me to remove a picture.

  7. Nice list Avada.. Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks have done wonders and each movie is a gem. Each movie is a master in every dept like voices, story, screenplay, and creating expressions is cartoon faces. So you should not include traditional animation and CGI in one list. All the movies mentioned above are my favorites except cars! Along with that you should watch The Iron gaint (wonderful movie!), Metropolis, Nightmare before Christmas, Ghost in the shell, Disney’s Bambi (my all time fav) and Snow white and the seven dwarfs (the most beautiful and flashing animation I ve seen)
Apart from these I strongly recommend you to watch all Studio Gibli’s traditional animation movies esp. Spirited away and Princess Mononoke. I can give you the list if you need.

    1. Thanks Prasad.. You dont like Cars? Why?
Bambi is another favourite movie of mine.. it’s a beautiful movie.. even Snow white, it was supposedly the first animation movie to have released right? All those cartoons were hand written.. imagine how tough it was to produce one such movie.. these days they can easily use softwares to do that.. I watched Spirited Away.. it was a very different kind of movie.. pretty interesting plot.. give me your favourites list.. I will try to watch them all..

  12. Animation always brings out your creative best in you. It’s not easy to imagine and be part of the action. You need very strong imagination and creativity. Kids love the animations as they can imagine themeslves part of the plot. Many adults can’t imagine themselves flying on the mat, or would see themselves saying “To the universe and beyond” :P. It takes kid(imagination and creativity) in you to appreciate them. And it’s silly that some claim animation and comics are not for them. All I say is, damn you guys you are missing the best genre :).

Avada: Soo true.. not everyone can appreciate animation.. it requires you to have a creative mind to imagine stuff which are not real.. the same goes for fantasy movies too.. they involve lot of imagination from the writer’s side as well as the viewer’s side too.. For many people animation, comics are kids stuff and they pretend they have grown up and dont watch such movies.. they really are missing the best genre like you said

I was lucky enough my parents never had issue in me watching cartoons, reading comics(used to take great struggles to read comics :P. Which we will discuss some other time at some other place :P). Maybe that’s why my creative brain still works :P.

Avada: Same here 🙂 My parents never stopped me from watching TV or movies or reading books or comics.. Struggle to read comics? why? even I feel my brain is more creative and my general knowledge is better because I never had any restrictions in life.

N0t sure I have seen all of the movies listed above. For sure I have seen many of them. I really loved Wall-E. I watched it 3-4 times(plane, casino, blue ray :D). I really loved the way creators have showed the love in robots. Shoot me for saying Wall-E a robot(love emoticon).

Avada: Hey watch the rest of the movies in the list which you havent already seen.. lovely movies, each of them 🙂 I have a pic with WallE, not sure if you have already seen 🙂

The other one I really loved watching was Toy-Story series. I remember the first time when we saw this move. Couple of cousins were totally against watching Toy-story and instead wanted to see some comedy or action movie. I convinced them to watch this and boy they loved it or what :P. Lol my little nephews at that time were “To the universe and beyond” for weeks. I was so proud :P. But, got wrath for spoiling kids(improving they meant 😉 ).

Avada: Toy story is amazing!! just love Woody and Buzz 🙂 Even I have made my cousins watch animated movies, even though they had no interest. Their parents will be thinking that I am spoiling their children, but I feel it’s necessary for children to watch such movies.

Nemo is another one I really liked. Oh and how could I forget Ice age series and Ratatouille and Madagascar?. Boy all are pure gems listed out there :D.

Avada: yo! each movie is a gem 🙂

Maybe next series about fav comics?. Or Cartoons :P. I want to write about my love for Pokemans :$. Pikachhuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu :P.

Avada: Great idea.. probably I will write a post on comics and cartoons next 🙂 I had one on hindi comics earlier, not sure you will enjoy the post: Click Here

Hey by the way I have uploaded some pics. Uploading couple more today evening. Have a look and let me know what you think.

Avada: Yep saw the pics on the day you posted itself.. beautiful pics.. post more 🙂 Let me comment on the posts now..

  19. Traditional animation (also called cel animation or hand-drawn animation) was the process used for most animated films of the 20th century. The individual frames of a traditionally animated film are photographs of drawings that are first drawn on paper. To create the illusion of movement, each drawing differs slightly from the one before it. The animators’ drawings are traced or photocopied onto transparent acetate sheets called cels, which are filled in with paints in assigned colors or tones on the side opposite the line drawings. The completed character cels are photographed one-by-one against a painted background by a rostrum camera onto motion picture film ..
