Spooky Memories

Happy Halloween Day everyone! 🙂

While in India, I was barely aware of this. But here they celebrate it in a very grand manner. This year we had a pumpkin decoration contest at office. My friend S suggested that we participate and I agreed instantly. We started planning on how to decorate. They said they will give us the pumpkins on 26th of this month and we need to submit the decorated ones on 29th. They kept the pumpkins and the decorating materials on 26th and you wont believe I had a meeting on 26th from morning 10. I could not go with S to pick the pumpkins or the materials. S, later on, thought she will pick them all by herself. The tragedy was by the time she went there, there were 1 or 2 pumpkins left and only one of them had the stem. She picked it up and some decoration items (all the carving materials were gone). By the time I came back from my meeting, even those were gone. I was glad that she picked them up in time.

The whole day monday I was in a meeting, which ended at night 7:30 and S had gone home by then. The next day (27th) same thing happened. During lunch time, I ran to S’s cubicle and told her that I had an hour’s time and we should start decorating. The rules were that we can use only those materials which were available in office. We cannot get anything from outside the building to decorate. So 27th, we could decorate for an hour and after that I was stuck in meeting which ended late night. I really was so frustrated and exhausted. I cursed myself for even thinking about taking part in the contest. I wanted to make a beautiful entry into this contest and I had to have every possible meeting this week 😦 How unlucky of me! 28th was the only day left and hence we decided we will come early and do some decoration. We came an hour early and did. I again ran to meet S, during any break time between the meetings. Finally, we had very less stuff to finish on 29th. Again, we came early to office and finished it. We submitted it to the contest in time.

All my teammates and friends saw the pumpkin and started praising us 🙂 We were glad we could make an entry. Of course, we did not win. Blame it on the lack of time or whatever. But it was nice participating in the event. We had a bash in the evening. I could not make it to the bash. I had a cute mask too which I wanted to wear there. Reason: Meeting 😦 😦 😦 😦 I hate this hectic life sometimes. But then life will be boring if it is not hectic. Maybe we sometimes need a balance. Okay, had a very hectic week. Too tired. Severe headache. My head is gonna blast soon. Let me wrap up this post soon.

This was our pumpkin witch, designed by me and S in less than 3 hrs, using only the materials available in the office 🙂 This was the first pumpkin that I ever decorated in my life. The thing that you see next to our witch is a tombstone, with bats flying all over it and carries “R.I.P” on it (just to add some spookiness)

My boss was too pleased with this witch 😛 He praised me like 4-5 times in a day 😀 My big boss asked me, what inspired me to make a witch. Cant say the truth, can I? 😛 We did not win any prize. But instead got some candies which look like eyeball, teeth, skull etc. I dont think I will ever feel like eating those scary candies. I got a few cockroaches and a skeleton too. People had decorated the pumpkins so nicely. After seeing the other entries, I felt we could have done more justice if we had some time at hand 😦 There was a Harry Potter pumpkin too (for the fans):

There were many beautifully carved and decorated pumpkins. My favourites were the following:

   This was my most favourite decoration. So cute they are and so beautifully carved. This won 3rd prize (according to me, it should have won first prize)
2. 
   This was my second favourite. Sadly, this did not win any prize 😦
3. 

This was also very beautiful. Did not win any prize.

I love the Caramel apples and the variety of candies that we get on Halloween. The best thing that I like about Halloween is seeing people dressed up in scary costumes. This time I missed it 😦 I remember once when I was in college, we had a huge gang of friends and we went to the downtown and had loads of fun. We posed with any stranger, who was dressed up in some scary costume and had clicked hundreds of pics. This time I looked at those pics and could not stop laughing at the kind of pics we had taken back then. It is so true – college days are always the best!

There was a very cute baby, fully dressed up that we met on that halloween day. He was so cute that we wanted a pic with him. I lifted him and he was soooo heavy! I was very happy to hand him over to his mother :D. There were lot of small girls, dressed up like princesses. They were very cute 🙂 We met a person dressed up as werewolf. My friend and I posed next to it and my friend made it really embarrassing by howling like a wolf in the pic 😛 And there were too many Jack Sparrows everywhere we went. We also met Spiderman, Superman and all kinds of men, including the Spartan king 🙂 Some of our classmates too had dressed up as pirates et al. The whole street was illuminated and everything looked so beautiful.

I will really miss the 2007 halloween day forever! It was the best Halloween Day ever! Miss those college days! 🙂
