Fiction 55 – Second attempt

Here is another pathetic attempt at writing 55 fiction. Hope you guys will like it!

Wikipedia says “55 Fiction is a form of microfiction that refers to the works of fiction limited to a maximum of fifty-five words.”

A literary work will be considered 55 Fiction if it has:

  1. Fifty-five words or less (A non-negotiable rule)
  2. A setting,
  3. One or more characters,
  4. Some conflict, and
  5. A resolution. (Not limited to moral of the story)
  6. The title of the story is not part of the overall word count, but it still can’t exceed seven words.

The Elevator

Arun and Darshak were in the elevator with 10 other people.
Arun: ?????gave up??????
Darshak: What?
Arun: ??????up smokiii???????
Darshak: Oh okay. That’s very nice
Everyone else got down from the elevator except for Arun and Darshak.
Arun: What okay dumbo?
Darshak: I thought you gave up smoking
Arun: Aaaaaah! I asked you if you did

This is another kinda non-fiction but I never had this kind of conversation, so I guess it qualifies under fiction 😛 . But I have nodded my head whenever I could not hear properly what the other person said in a crowded elevator. We should never converse in an elevator. Because how many times can we say “what?”. The last thing I would want is the other person thinking that I am deaf.

I got this idea when today I had a similar issue:

Me: So are you working on the project “Eureka” now?
He: No ??????working on????????
Me: what?
He: working on????????
Me: okay nice.. See you. It’s my floor.

I still have no clue which project he is working on 😀 I will put this question to him again, the next time I meet him (but not in the elevator please!)

  4. I do this often, while talking over the phone. Sometimes, the lines will not be clear or we will have some noise from the next door auto shop and I keep on asking ‘what what’ and then just say ‘is it so’ and hang up! Next time, I get caught when they tell me that they already have given the news to me!

You have not made up anything…just a simple story, nice.

  6. I love your 55 fiction. It is such a slice of life. I have a huge problem of not understanding what ppl say, and usually wind up smiling vaguely at them.
