Setting ablaze

Living independently requires you to learn cooking.. I never ever entered the kitchen in my life before (not even to get water) and suddenly was made to cook 😮 You can imagine the situation! Initially it used to so spicy that I would keep a chocolate with me for emergency situations 😛 Now kinda improved though not a good cook yet.. Nothing can beat mom’s cooking.. Recently my roomie and I thought of frying some paapad.. This was my first experiment with “frying in oil”.. Had never fried anything so far.. My roomie is also of my category so had no problem (or should I say more problem).. Anyways, we started with our experiment.. The paapad as expected got burnt.. I was least surprised.. Then it kinda stabilized and stopped becoming black..rather, I prevented it from becoming black.. I fried few and was contented.. Then my roomie thought of frying some.. After a few mins she started shouting.. I ran to the place to see that a plastic plate on which she was placing the fried paapads had caught fire :)) All my other roomies came too..

She was so scared that she dint even think of extinguishing the fire.. The houses here are built with wood.. Fire was the most dangerous thing that could ever happen.. I boldly kept the plate under the tap and turned on the tap…Such a fire was again set ablaze when we were trying to fry pooris and just yesterday once again by us..

I think I have become quite bold these days owing to the fact that I do not have mom or dad to run to when I am in danger.. Girl who had never ever killed even a cockroach can kill scorpions these days.. Gosh!! I am proud of myself.. Mom was the official cockroach hunter at home.. I have become scorpion hunter B-) I have a record of killing 4-5 of them already since every other person was scared to.. Now I can kill any insect in the world 😀

Bark scorpion (Commonly found in AZ)

This scorpion is supposed to be deadly and it is just one to one and a half inches in length making it really difficult to spot especially since our carpet was of the same color. Thankfully, I survived the attack (nevertheless, exams themselves were worse than such bites) whereas my friend did get bitten once..And the apartment people had nothing to say about it.. It seems there is no chemical available which can kill a scorpion. They would just come and spray some stupid chemical which was just supposed to kill the insects that a scorpion feeds upon..Because of lack of food, probably it started attacking humans.. The apartment people warned us of a black spider which was also supposed to be very common in Arizona.. It was supposed to be very deadly and had no antidote…Those were the scary days when I would dream about being bitten by one such creature.. Now that I am at a safe place with no such wild creatures, I can heave a sigh of relief..

I’ve never experienced staying by myself except for occasional trips out of town. Proud of you dear.

    1. Yeah and after my friend got bitten once, her leg got swollen like anything and she said the pain was unbearable.. it is poisonous too.. Also once it catches hold of you, it doesnt release its claws until and unless you kill it. 😦

    1. hehe. 😀 The place where I lived in was Arizona and it is a desert, though there is no sand like other deserts. It is pretty hot there and I guess that’s why such creatures survive. But something was wrong with the apartment because none of the others had them. Yep living alone makes you learn a lot of things in life.

Is this like a secret between the words message, to warn people…:P

I can exactly know how you must be feeling, when I was living in Delhi, I saw a rat family grow old!!!
They shared my food…before I fed them poison.

  4. Wow Avada!!
You are having an adventurous time.
I can empathize with you plight with cooking. I have cooking hands similar to those of Thakur in Sholay 😉
And being a Scorpio Hunter, you can do a bit of experiment.
I can’t guarantee, but I have read it somewhere that if you pour a bit of alcohol on Scorpio’s back, it stings itself!!
But, this is neither confirmed nor verified, so if you do give it try, then do take care and have help at hand
    Best of luck 🙂

    1. Oh yeah somebody told me the same thing about alcohol. Thankfully, I dont live in that house now and hence got rid of all the scorpions 🙂 God save those who shifted there after we vacated 😛

  5. Oh gosh.. But then plate on fire is better than burning yourself. Earlier I used to manage to splash hot oil on my hands each time I tried out puris. My wrists and forearms are full of burn marks. Once I even dipped my finger in the oil along with a puri. ew !

I know.. now that I am an independent householder, I have learnt to kill things too.

  6. hey what did you coat the plastic plate with,
petrol? Still how did it burn. Paapad is dipped in oil which hot paapad would be in no direct contact with the fire how come ? weird may there is a ghost in your Kitchen not some spiders or scorpions 😀

Why do you want to kill the poor insects yaar? wont using chemical cause pollution?
    Just a thought

    1. hehe.. no venky. The thing was that she kept the plate very close to the gas stove and I think the plate touched the flame and caught fire. It was a very thin plastic plate. I did not see how it caught fire but I think this is what must have happened. By the time I saw, the plate was on fire and she was shouting 🙂 😀 hehe
Poor insects? Scorpions are not poor insects? 😮 They are deadly and poisonous. People can die from their bites you know? And they dont leave a person once they catch hold of him/her with their claws 😦 They are very deadly!! Chemicals could not be used because there is no chemical which can kill a scorpion 😦

I have been coming here for the past couple nights and reading. I just needed to let you know that I have been enjoying what I’ve seen and I look forward to reading more.

  9. Ive been living in Arizona for 12 years, i have done SEVERAL reports on Scorpions, and several other poisonous beings in the state.

First off, Yes scorpion stings are venemous. BUT. Its only “DEADLY” to young infants, and Very old individuals.

The bigger the scorpion in america, the least deadly.

Scorpions use their pinchers to hold their food while eating. not to attack so they wont “Grab on and not let go of you until you kill them” as you put it.

I have several scorpions kept in tanks and everything ive been stung well over 50 times in the past 10 years and im alive an well..

people shouldnt be so paranoid about a arachnid…

the one you SHOULD be worrying about are Black widows and Brown Recluse.

    1. Thanks a lot Nickq for the information. I really thought that they were deadly. But in case of my friend, it really did catch hold of her toe and did not let it go, until and unless we pulled it away from her toe by force. And this is why I thought they bite by catching hold of an object using their pinchers. Oh stung over 50 times!!! Then they really aren’t that harmful. We were really scared of them those days.
Yeah I have heard about black widows being deadly too.
      Thanks Nickq!!!
