What is happening?

This was the situation some 6 years back when we were getting admitted into the professional courses:

P1: Hi! What is your ranking?
P2: it is 9825.. what is your ranking?
P1: it is 657.. Your percentage?
P2: 75%.. yours?
P1: 95%

A few days later:

P2: Hey I finished my counselling. I got a seat in the second best college. I didnt opt for the best college since I didnt want to stay in the hostel in a different city, you see.
P1: Gosh!! :o… I ended up in a mediocre one with a payment seat 😦
P2: Even my tution fee has been waived.. 🙂
P1: Why? Do you belong to the lower economical group? I dont think so. You are richer than me.
P2: No way! My father is a very big industrialist.. But I am from a lower caste..

Situation today is worse 😦
I dont understand why such a discrimination has to be done. People long back struggled to abolish the age old caste system that prevailed and the politicians of today are making it even more prominant through such reservations.. Why cannot all the humans be treated alike? given equal opportunities everywhere? If a person is brilliant enough, he can come up in life through his own efforts..
But, I do support reservation of seats and fee waivement for economically backward people.. Let us encourage those who are genuinely interested but are unable to enter the professional courses because of lack of funds and support from family..

  2. ya, the concept of though had been successful ( atleast projected to be so ) since its inception is n’t fair… whether its on caste / economic basis. the pblem comes at the implementation level, bcoz ppl fake to be eligible..

Its high time intellectual ppl come up with some alternative solution other than reservations, ( take ex from some european nations etc )… its just intellectual lazinees of biggies, or els certainly an alternative could be thought of..

    nice thought provoking post..
